drinking water from a cup

picking out pumpkins

dominoes and dump trucks are a current hit

Fi and Mama at the "pumpkin patch"

We headed out to the fairgrounds to the 4-H pumpkin sale this weekend. We got there about an hour after it opened and nearly all the pumpkins were gone! We felt lucky to snag the two we got. Then we enjoyed a nice lunch at one of our favorite spots, Java Flats. Seriously its the only place in Kodiak that actually knows how to make a latte (lattes are supposed to have foam on top thank you very much!) and they make killer cookies. I love that place! Good weekend all around!

Playing with her dominoes and dump truck... you can see her tired eyes just before nap time

Bundled up for a morning walk with Papa... no more warm weather for us.

Beans for dinner!

Velcro Baby

Happy Friday! Just a quick note to say hi and add some pictures. Brian took the last two weeks off from work to work on some house projects. He fenced in the garden and put a roof on the chicken run. The chickens now have access to the garden for the winter and more space to run around in. Unfortunately we are down to 2 chickens! Brian had to go into tough farmer mode the other day and "dispatch" a sick chicken. I couldn't take part and just made sure he didn't give me too many details. We are looking forward to getting more chicks this spring. Now he's working on rebuilding the rock wall out front that has been falling down.

Fiona has enjoyed extra time with Papa too. This morning I got up to get ready for the kids to arrive and those two stayed in bed until 8:45! They've also been out on lots of walks together. We'll miss him when he goes back to work. She loves eating as you can see from the picture. We try to give her some of what we are eating for dinner each night. That night it was burritos! Refried beans are such fun to feed yourself! She is just about over a long cold (Brian is still fighting his). Sometimes when a girl doesn't feel good all she wants is to be held. Thank goodness for baby carriers. I use about 3 different ones depending on her mood and what I'm trying to get done. Every Mama should have at least one!

crawling...

Fiona didn't like me writing that she wasn't crawling last week so she decided to start crawling on Monday! She's pretty delighted with herself! She does an army crawl and can move pretty fast. She is pretty excited to be able to head after the big kids toys much to their dismay! "Uh uh Baby Fiona my blocks, uh uh!" Oh the fun has just begun! Note to self: keep dog bowls in the garage from now on.

In other less exciting news... Kodiak experienced a MAJOR storm yesterday. We had over 6 inches of rain which totally flooded our garage. At one point Brian was outside digging a trench to divert water while I used the wet vac with Fiona on my back. Good times! Brian is still working on it this morning. Yuck!

Beautiful Girl!

Fiona, the little Alaskan Jumping Bean

Fiona is 8 months old! Still no crawling but she seems content to roll and scoot around backwards and in circles to get where she wants to go. She now has 6 teeth and is working on 2 more. She loves to sit down to dinner with us. She had venison for the first time the other night and loved it. She's a big fan of potato cheddar soup which is one of the few things she lets me spoon feed her! She much prefers to feed herself. This morning we went out for breakfast and she was happy to eat the black beans out of my breakfast burrito. She is quite the social butterfly. We meet Papa after work at the brewery about once a week where she hams it up with everyone. She seems to draw people in with eye contact and big smiles. Even the gruffest fishermen melt into smiles with her. Although she was saying Mama for a while she quit and has moved on to saying Papa. I have to admit its pretty cute, but is it as cute as Mama?! Naps are still hit or miss but aside from the occasional middle of the night growling practice she continues to be an awesome night sleeper. I'll take that over a good napper any day!
